AFSCME Local 189 Endorses Carmen Rubio for Portland City Commissioner (Position 1). Carmen was Born and raised in Hillsboro and is the granddaughter of migrant workers. Carmen worked for Mayor Tom Potter and City Commissioner Nick Fish. AFSCME Local 189 Endorses Julia DeGraw for Portland City Commissioner (Position 2). Julia has years of experience winning real protections for our environment and building coalitions for good, clean jobs to better all Portlanders. Julia also fought for Oregonians against Nestle and Monsanto’s toxic agricultural practices. AFSCME Local 189 Endorses Ted Wheeler for Portland City Mayor. Ted has been an ally for Labor Unions during his first term and will continue through his second. Ted has also More than doubled Portland’s shelter capacity and focused on creating a robust system of transitional housing as well as helped thousands of Portlanders from becoming homeless. Ted has also built over 800 new affordable homes. Increased funding for the Portland Police Bureau’s Behavioral Health Unit and Service Coordination Team to better address the needs of those in crisis on our street as well as many other issues that face our city today.
